The following clip is from backstage at Colbert Report. These guys seemed to have never touched the game, looks like they kicked ass until they stopped. So what if they failed at 31%? Im sure they were just shocked at the progression technology has made since the days of silent moving pictures. (sick burn on Rush for being old!?!)

So, with the blockbuster movie pulling in obscene ammounts of cash, and everyone talking about the Dark Knight, I’ve had the question of Batman vs. Ironman come up more than once. I think Marvel hit a home run with Ironman, and DC/Nolan with Batman as well. I’ve made my peace with what I perceved as ‘cheese’ in Dark Knight (bat-sonar!? Gordan’s speach to his 8 year old?!). For me, when it comes down to it, these movies are SO different that comparison is difficult. SO… let it boil down to personal preference! Im going to make some polls listed below to turn this arguement into a democracy and see who turns out on top!

I was one of fifty three BAGILLION people who saw The Dark Knight on open last night. It was pretty freaking awesome. The characterization of the villains The Joker and Two-Face were beyond good… more like EPIC. The story can only really be summed up with one description: complex. Either that or dark. The Joker scared the PISS out of me… but it wasn’t some jumpy, loud explosion, or mass murder kind of scare. Sure, he killed a shit load of people, but he was a deeper kind of fear. The Joker was irrational, but a sense of being completely cogent of what he was. Every moment on the screen was tense, and any humor portrayed was funny and at the same time very, very, very not-funny. I think if this Joker were to come out of the movie screen into real life, I would scream like a girl and use small children and the handicapped as meatshields to escape. And yes – this DOES apply to you Dub. Im sorry, but this mother f***er was SICK.

The rest of the movie, which I was scared would pale in comparison to the portrayal of the Joker, was actually just as deep. SPOILER ALERT

Harvey Dent was just amazing. A-fucking-mazing. The story, the character… the sympathy. You started the movie a sceptic… saw a glimpse of possible moral ambiguity. He captures a criminal, and flips a coin to decide his fate – pre-TwoFace! Only to find out, his coin had one side, and he was never going to kill him. He was truly the White Knight. His fall from grace, and slip into madness, is tragic. His world view forever changed and corrupted by the Joker. He personifies torment, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Was it PERFECT? Well… thats a strong title, and I don’t think I can give it to the Dark Knight. It had it’s campy moments. Can you say Bat-Sonar anyone? Who the fuck believed that he turned every standard cell phone in gotham into a sonar device with god-damn firmware update? If that’s possible, please turn my XBox 360 into an apple pie machine with a firmware update Microsoft!

Also, some of the dialogue was a bit too melodramatic for me. At the end, commissioner Gordon talks to his son with what has to be the most unbelievable dialogue to an 8 year old kid EVER. I can’t be too harsh, however, as these moments were few, and scattered. Most of the drama was executed perfectly, such as Dent’s loss of Rachael, and his ensuing spiral. That was handled brilliantly.

Overall, this movie is pretty epic. Yet another movie that will drive me to a PS3 so I can view in beautiful HD. I realized that comparing this movie to other comic book inspired movies cannot be done – I started off thinking I liked Iron Man more… but they are so dramatically different. One is a clever, witty take on a billionaire drunkard who shoots lasers from his hands and flies – the other is a deep and poignant take on a self-loathing billionaire who throws bat shaped ninja stars and drives a tank. Man, thats like apples and tater tots! (er… um… oranges?).

Score: 4.8 / 5.0

You know what really grinds my gears? Being a geek all of the sudden having something to do with being cool. Sure, Bill Gates is a filthy rich geek, but we are only considered geeks (dorks/nerds/etc) because we weren’t really comfortable with many things considered ‘cool’ by mainstream society. We were usually smarter than the average person – whether that translated into good grades in math, building computers, reading tons of books, or some other outlet. We might not have been given swirlies or shoved in lockers, but the things we really liked doing were not meant for the world to know. We gathered in secret covenants to enter the Forgotten Realms as heroic figures or to exhibit our hand/eye coordination in massive rounds of Goldeneye or Unreal Tournament. We watched epic tales of Wookies and Tribbles, and trounced our enemies with the sheer might of our Shivan Dragon. These are the things that entertained us the most – the essence of our childhood. Being a geek had nothing to do with being cool… but had everything to do with being ourselves. It was liberating, like taking off a mask you had no idea weighed you down. Now why the fuck are crowds of people all of the sudden pretending to associate with me because they play World of Warcraft or Halo 3? This constitutes to being a geek? I will wear my geekdom like a purlple fucking heart – I’ll tell people that I love White Wolf games and write them off when they look their noses down on me. I won’t quell my excitement over the announcement of the eeePC from ASUS, or hesitate to bring up that article on nanotube research or memristors I read about to my friends. Just because you liked watching the big green guy smash things in The Incredible Hulk does not mean I have to forget that you were the jock that made fun of the way I was in middle school, and it certainly does not make you and I the same clique.
Many people still hide their geekdom. These ‘Closet Geeks’ might even justify by stratifying fellow geeks into a hierarchy. ‘Im a geek, but he’s a dork’. ‘Im not a nerd’. Does this help you sleep at night? Does a fond memory of Magic: The Gathering prohibit me from going to a bar with my friends? Does owning Star Wars Trivial Persuit ban me from attending a concert? By discriminating against other people with different tastes – by labeling breeds of geekdom – we perpetuate the same feeling we get when our high school crush found out we played Dungeons and Dragons. We are unified under one common creed – if what we find entertaining doesn’t affect other people, why the fuck should anyone else dictate our personal time?

If being a geek is cool, then what is not cool? If everything is cool, then what does the cool status indicate? Nothing… but we all know that’s a lie (As is cake I hear). There is cool and uncool. And that which is geeky is still pretty much uncool. Did you like Iron Man? Of course… it was amazing. Did you point out the hints at War Machine or point out Jon Favreau’s character Happy Hogan and Pepper Potts get married in the comic? We are geeks because what we like gets us funny looks. We hang out, because we’re less apt to judge one another

In short… if you are not a geek, please stop considering yourself one. I don’t call myself a jock because I joined an inter-mural soccer team for a year.

And you know what else grinds my gears… when you can’t find those droids you’re looking for.

Myspace apparently is making changes! New interface skins… new API’s for developers. My imediate response to hearing this was ‘I dont give a flying fuck!’

You want to know what might make using myspace more enjoyable? Maybe if every other day I didn’t have my email inbox half full of fake user profiles named ‘candy’, ‘bambi’, ‘hotTamalile47′, and ‘looking for love’ spamming me to check out their nude pics. You know what… Im already on the god damn internet. If I want to look at nude pics, here is a better way than surfing myspace – PORN! It already comprises more than 3/4ths of the internet, do I really need LoveToSuck31′s help to find these naughty pics? Do I really want to install malware on my comp to view a few boob shots I could have easily found on google image search?

Social networking was really cool when it was new… now, there are 40 bagillion different pages wanting you to post your pics. The key to success here is specialization. Flicker is used for pics cause it does pictures very well… and THATS IT! If one site tries to take on too many hats, it just fails. I stopped using facebook when user apps sent me twenty thousand invites a day to be a damn pirate, robot, vampire, or have my ‘Heroes Power’. There is only so much bullshit I can tolerate. Facebook is solely used for stalking people… to get on and see what your friends or that chick you dig is doing without actually talking to them. Why the fuck would I use facebook instant messanger when AIM has been around for years? When gMail integrates so elegantly a messanger thats unobtrusive?

Social networking is out of control… I think it’s the Web 2.0 fad that just wont die. I think it’s evolving, and will continue to evolve, into more and more useful and integrated services that will usher in a new era for the web… these are called YouTube, Flicker, Twitter, etc etc. They will be integrated into your phones, desktops, laptops, Ultra-Mobile Systems, TVs, and toasters. And guess what… my money says that Facebook, MySpace, and any other social network that fails to evolve in more ways than user interface and vampire applications will fall to the wayside.
